This online session will explain how Drama can be intentionally used, to provide opportunities for children to practice and develop their oracy skills in the primary school. Class teachers will learn some ways of using drama strategies as ‘Talk Frames’ within any subject lesson, and how imaginary situations and drama strategies can be set up to specifically stimulate and support purposeful and contextually appropriate talk. The various configurations, groupings and ‘talk protocols’ of various drama strategies will be outlined, with some possible ways of sequencing them, to maintain the oracy focus. You will be guided one step at a time, through a ‘Drama for Oracy’ lesson, with a range of oracy opportunities highlighted and explained throughout.
