This online training is for any member of staff in the early stages of working in a supportive/advisory role with parents and families ( e.g. Parent Support Adviser, Family Support Worker) . The modules equip delegates with the knowledge, skills and confidence to both support and advise parents/carers in their parenting role so that their children develop, achieve and thrive at school.
The training consists of 4 x 1.5 hour online training sessions. Delegates are required to access all sessions.

The 4 sessions cover :
Exploring the dimensions of the family support worker role
Getting to know the parent community and forming positive relationships
Appreciating the challenges for some families and schools in developing the school/home partnership ( including difference and diversity )
Ways to create an environment to promote positive relationships between home and school and increase parental involvement and engagement in learning
Developing skills in communicating effectively with parents/carers
Developing a partnership model of working
Recognising resilience in a family and adopting a strengths based approach
Developing the use of contracting skills
Using coaching principles in working with families
Helping families set goals
Developing reflective practice
Resources
Ways to evaluate and demonstrate the impact of the family support role
Understand the importance of supervision, health and well being
Throughout her career as a teacher, senior leader and senior adviser for a local authority, Julie’s work has focused on inspiring , enabling and empowering all parents and schools to work in partnership in order to ensure best outcomes for each child, not only in terms of their academic achievement but also their emotional health and well-being.
She currently provides consultancy , advice and training to schools across the U.K. on how to do this, drawing on a wealth of experience and research in the field of stakeholder engagement and parental support for learning.
