To explore what inference is in its widest sense;

Using everyday life, pictures and film clips to develop early inference;

To explore ways of using teacher modelling in the teaching of inference with young children

This course is in 2 parts; a two hour course on the 3.11.21 and a 1 hour twilight on the 2.12.21

About The Course

Ask any teacher about the areas of reading that many pupils struggle with the most and they will probably tell you that inference and deduction are right up there!

This course will explore ways into early inference for pupils in EYFS and KS1 classrooms. Teachers will explore how inference begins outside the remit of reading within everyday life and how this can be used to develop pupils’ ability to make inferences based on what they see going on around them. It will also look at how to move this into picture books and early reading texts.

Teachers will need to bring to the session a book (or text extract) that they intend to use with their classes.

Andy has worked in primary education in Peterborough for 30 years. He has a proven track record of excellent teaching and phase/subject leadership. As a learning & teaching adviser with Peterborough City Council, he provided high quality advisory support to teachers and middle leaders in a wide range of schools. Andy’s specialisms are English teaching, AfL and middle leadership development. Much of Andy's current work involves team teaching in various schools across Peterborough from Y1-Y6.
