‘The importance of handwriting in developing pupils’ writing cannot be overstated.’ DfE (The writing framework, 2025) This virtual CPD session offers teachers the opportunity to consider the explicit teaching of handwriting. We will explore how the teaching of handwriting progresses across the primary phase and teachers will leave with ideas which can be implemented immediately in classrooms.

About the Programme Leader

Rebecca Kennedy is an independent English consultant who works with primary schools and multi-academy trusts to support the development of high-quality English teaching and literacy practice. She is a member of the committee for the National Association of Advisers in English and is part of a collaborative research group exploring non-fiction and the teaching of English alongside colleagues from the National Association of Advisers in English, United Kingdom Literacy Association and Just Imagine. Rebecca has previously worked as an associate consultant for Centre for Literacy in Primary Education and the Open University Reading for Pleasure team. She has contributed to a number of United Kingdom Literacy Association publications and served on the editorial board for English 4–11. Rebecca is co-facilitator of the West Midlands Primary English Network (PEN).
