Overview

The Learning Partnership will be drawing upon resources from The Teachers’ Collection.

The Teachers’ Collection has identified some outstanding texts, demonstrating their connections to the national curriculum programmes of study, drafted some outline plans and pulled together important vocabulary for each unit.

Colleagues from The Learning Partnership will be walking through four different texts each term.

The Great Fire of London - Using a core literacy text to support primary history teaching

This practical webinar will feature a beautifully core literacy text from The Teacher`s Collection - The Great Fire of London (An illustrated history of the Great Fire of London of 16666) by Emma Adams and James Weston Lewis. It will consider the most effective ways for using this book in teaching The Great Fire of London as a history study unit at KS1 so that pupils can develop their substantive knowledge of the event, compare it with the original evidence on which it draws and consider what information it leaves out and why this might be. In using the book this way pupils will be supported in developing the disciplinary concepts of cause and consquence, change and continuity, handling evidence and historical interpretations, rather than meeting purely literacy based learning objectives.
