Target audience:

  • Teachers new to year 2

  • Teachers returning to teach year 2

  • Teachers wishing to refresh their skills

  • NQTs

  • Teaching assistants

Course objectives:

  • To examine the current national documentation available for teaching and learning in Year 2

  • To consider the importance of reasoning and problem solving for all children

  • To analyse post 2016 KS 1 SATs and the prior learning required to be able to solve the questions posed.

During this course, delegates will explore and examine the key documentation for Year 2 (and SATs). The group will consider the importance of moderation, ongoing assessment, evidence and use of the assessment framework. There will also be an opportunity to analyse previous KS 1 test questions and to examine the prior learning required to be successful. This course will also seek to highlight the importance of mathematical vocabulary, mental calculation skills, place value, calculation and problem solving. Post attendance, each delegate will be sent a folder of key documents and a copy of the presentation as a pdf file.
